Argentina’s Conte is the MVP of Men’s Volleybal at Pan Am Games

TORONTO, Canada, July 26 2015  - Facundo Conte of Argentina was named the Most Valuable Player of the volleyball tournament at the XVII Pan American Games. Conte contributed to his team in the victory against Brazil in a Classic South American Battle. The Argentineans won in five sets 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 25-23 and 15-8. Conte registered 23 points in the final, only five less than Brazil’s Renan Buiatti, who scored 28 and was recognized as Best Opposite Player of the competition. More  Español

Argentina men’s take the gold medal at Pan Am Games

TORONTO, Canada, July 26, 2015 – Argentina won the men’s volleyball gold medal at the Toronto Pan American Games with a terrific comeback to outduel Brazil 3-2 (25-23, 18-25,  19-25, 25-23, 15-8) in front of a full house at Exhibition Center on Sunday afternoon. Trailing by four points in the latter stages of the fourth set, the Argentinean side steadily climbed the ladder to tie the score with resilient field and net defense. At 23-all they forced the tie-breaker with the ace by Martin Ramos and a tremendous block by Luciano Zornetta. Argentina dominated in the tie-breaker to claim their second gold medal in the history of the Games adding to the one conquered at home in 1995 when the event took place in Mar del Plata. En route to their championship, the Argentineans snapped the streak of two titles in row by Brazil winners in Rio de Janeiro (2007) and Guadalajara, Mexico (2011). Facundo Conte, selected the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, led Argentina with 23 points, followed by Maximiliano Gauna with 13 and Sebastian Sole and Martin Ramos each with 10 points. Canada takes men’s bronze medal

TORONTO, Canada, July 26, 2015 – Hosts Canada defeated Puerto Rico 3-1 (25-11, 25-12, 23-25, 25-18) in the match for the bronze medal at the men’s volleyball tournament of the Pan American Games on Sunday morning at Toronto Exhibition Center. Gavin Schmitt was unstoppable with 25 points to lead the way for the home side with four aces and two blocks in his tally. John Gordon Perrin and Rudy Verhoeff contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the victory while Graham Vigrass chipped in with nine points. Puerto Rico, playing without the services of Steven Morales who suffered a broken ankle in the quarterfinals, had Hector Soto and Ezequiel Cruz as their main offensive producers with 11 points apiece. Canada dominated the stats of the match with an advantage in attacks (51-45) and huge margins both in blocks (11-3) and aces (10-0). Dominican Republic U18 wins gold medal at US Open

WELLS FARGO, Iowa, July 25, 2015 – The U18 Girls’ National Team of the Dominican Republic was crowned champions at the International Division of the US Open Championships on Saturday following a successful run.  TORONTO, Canada, July 25 2015 - Carli Lloyd of the United States was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the Volleyball Tournament at the Pan Am Games. Dominica outlasts Grenada in 5 Sets

PHILLIPSBURG, St. Maarten – July 24, 2015- Fortunes flowed like a metronome between Dominica and Grenada in Match # 6 of the ECVA Junior Male Tournament. Both teams battled for almost two hours. First Dominica controlled the momentum and then suffered a meltdown that allowed Grenada to take over and level the series. It was only until the final game that Dominica got a spark and used it to blaze a fire to the end and won in 5 sets.  More  Español

St. Martin crushes BVI in straight sets

PHILLIPSBURG, St. Maarten – July 24, 2015 - St. Martin wasted little time in disposing of the British Virgin Islanders (BVI) in straight sets (25-5, 25 -6 and 25-9) in game 4 of the ECVA Junior Female Championship. The entire game lasted a total of 44 minutes and the French girls hardly had a reason to exert real effort. It was painful to see the BVI struggle with reception as St. Martin got 29 points from services that were literally not returned.  More  Español
