USA wins, Dominicans outdueled by Japan

MATSUMOTO, Japan, August 27, 2015 – Reigning world champions the United States proved to be too strong for Algeria as they eased to a 3-0 (25-7, 25-2, 25-5) victory over the African runners-up in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup on Thursday afternoon. The American women finished their first round play with a 4-1 win-loss record, suffering their only defeat 3-2 against Serbia. Tetori Dixon led the United States with 16 points and Easy Megan added 12. The world champions outblocked Algeria 17-0 and outserved them 8-0 with the Most Impressive Player award going to Kelsey Robinson, who had six kills, three blocks and ace. In Tokyo, the Dominican Republic suffered a painful 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 30-32, 25-15, 15-13). More  Español

Mexican U21 National Squad is introduced at first Media Day before WCH

TIJUANA, Mexico, August 26 2015 - The Mexican U21 National unit was officially introduced at the First Media Day at the Baja California High Performance Centre prior to the Age Group World Championship. Event details such as opening dates and competition preparation scheduled from September 11 through 20 were presented to the attendants. The Baja California Sports and Physical Culture Institute Director, Saul Castro Verdugo, addressed the local and national media. Competition schedule, host cities, Pools information as well as control committee members and international referees assigned to the competitions were part of the main points during the conference. The Mexican players also received their official uniforms given by the local organising committee in a special meeting just a few minutes before the beginning of the Media Day. More  Español

Dominican Republic and USA improve to 3-1

TOKYO, Japan, August 26, 2015 – The Dominican Republic attackers stayed on course for a 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23) triumph over Cuba improving to a 3-1 win-loss record in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Wednesday. Cubans Jennifer Alvarez and Sulian Matienzo topped the scoring charts with 22 and 17 points, respectively, but Dominican Republic player Prisilla Rivera led a more balanced attack with 12 points. Rivera’s teammates Yonkaira Pena and Gina Mambru contributed 11 points each while Erasma Moreno added 10. In Matsumoto, reigning world champions the United States eased past Peru 3-0. With most of their regular starters rested, the American women had no difficulties claiming the 25-17, 25-15 and 25-12 win and improving to a 3-1 win-loss record. TOKYO, Japan, August 23, 2015 – Gina Mambru led Dominican Republic to gain their first victory in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup with a 3-0 (28-26, 26-24, 25-17) win over Kenya at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Sunday.
