USA team of Lucena/Brunner to semifinals in The Netherlands

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, July 3, 2015 – USA men’s team of Nick Lucena and Theodore Brunner remains as the only NORCECA representative still in contention at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. Two other USA men’s teams were eliminated in the quarterfinals round while the two women’s duos representing Canada and USA also left the tournament. Lucena advanced to a semifinal match against Brazil’s Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt in The Hague following their 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) victory over Jefferson Santos and Cherif Younousse of Qatar. In Apeldoorn, Cerutti and Schmidt beat Jacob Gibb and Casey Patterson 2-0 (21-12, 21-17) . More  Español

Peru, Colombia, Cuba and Kazakhstan to play in Trujillo

TRUJILLO, Peru, July 2, 2015 - This second weekend of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix begins on Friday and four teams in Group P will compete to qualify for the Group 3 Finals from July 10-12 in Canberra, Australia. Peru and Colombia have come from playing in Pool O in Monterrey, while Kazakhstan played hosts to Cuba in Pool N. The matches this weekend will take place in the Gran Chimú Coliseum of Trujillo, a location which promises to generate lots of emotions and a beautiful celebration of the sport.
Colombia coach Eduardo Guillaume said: “This is a new and good experience for us because each international game adds growth to our team. We are four good teams and I believe that from these teams, three of them will go to the Finals and nobody wants to be in fourth place.”

Turkey hosts USA, Belgium, Italy in World Grand Prix

ANKARA, Turkey, July 2, 2015 – A press conference was held before the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix Pool C games in Ankara on Thursday. Turkish Volleyball Federation Vice President Akif Üstündag attended the meeting with the captains and coaches of the four participating teams: Belgium, Italy, Turkey and USA. Üstündag congratulated the Turkish team on their gold medal at the 1st European Games last week in Baku, adding: “After only a week following the European Games, we will host Pool C games in the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix. Our fans in Ankara have always given us great support. I hope that the games will be sold out again. I wish good luck to all the participating teams.” Belgium coach Gert Vande Broek stressed that he cannot guarantee a win in his team’s three games but guaranteed. More  Español

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, July 2, 2015 – Three USA men’s teams advanced into the quarterfinals of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships on Thursday while the representatives of Canada, Mexico and Cuba were eliminated of the competition. The American teams of Nick Lucena and Theodore Brunner, Jacob Gibb and Casey Patterson and John Hyden and Tri Bourne all reached the phase of the last eight teams with their victories in the second phase of the knock-out round.
