Russia wins gold, Cuba seventh

TIJUANA, Mexico, July 7, 2013 – Russia capped an amazing campaign with a dominant victory over China 25-23, 25-22, 25-17, 25-14 to win the gold medal of the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship on Sunday. In the match for third place Poland defeated Iran in three sets 19-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17. Meanwhile, Cuba held off a relentless France to claim seventh place with a 3-2 (25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 25-27, 15-8) victory in the match for seventh place. Russia capped an amazing campaign with a dominant victory over China 25-23, 25-22, 25-17, 25-14 for the gold medal. Mexico gets victory over Unites States

MEXICALI, Mexico, July 6, 2013 - After losing two in a row against Argentina and Egypt, hosts Mexico recovered to edge past United States in a match that lasted 2 hours and 6 minutes. Mexico won in five sets (25-20, 26-28, 20-25, 25-21, 15-13). Enrique Ugalde converted 24 points, including four aces. Alan Martinez finished with 13 and Ivan Molano with 11. For the American side, Colby Harriman had his second match in a row as top scorer for his team with a total of 18 points and Christopher Nugent scored 17. Cuba among quarterfinalists at Boys’ U19

TIJUANA and MEXICALI, Mexico, July 3, 2013 – Cuba advanced to the quarterfinals of the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship while United States and Mexico lost their matches on Wednesday and will have to play for the 9 to 16 positions. The NORCECA champions overcame a slow start to defeat Belgium 26-24, 25-21, 25-20 advancing to the round of the eight finalists where they will play Russia, winners of their match against United States. Behind the offense of Pedro Jimeno, who led all the players in the game with 21 points, Cuba brushed aside a Belgium team that gave away 27 points via errors. Cuba qualify in second place in Pool B

TIJUANA and MEXICALI, Mexico, July 1, 2013 – Cuba qualified in second place of Pool Bwith a victory over Chile while United States had to settle for a fourth place in Pool D despite prevailing against Korea in five sets at the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship on Monday. In the round of sixteen on Wednesday, Cuba face Belgium (third place in Pool A) while United States meet Russia, the Pool C winner with a perfect record.  More  Español

United States win over Algeria in four sets

MEXICALI, Mexico, June 28, 2013 - The United States defeated Algeria 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 28-26, 25-17) to open the actions of Pool D at the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship on Thursday. Both squads played a very tough and tight match at Mexicali State Auditorium. The Americans came back on the shoulders of Jacob Arnitz and Connor Lammey who were their main weapons.
