Allen and Gutierrez set new marks

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 30, 2019 – Two new records were established during the last day of the U19 Boys’ Pan American Volleyball Cup won  by Cuba in the capital of the Dominican Republic.

Cubans José Miguel Gutierrez and Luis Vidal Allen set new marks for total aces and blocks in a single cup with their output in the victory over Mexico to claim the gold medal.

Allen registered four blocks to finish with 20 for the tournament erasing the old record set in 2017 by Colombian Jhonnier Sánchez with 18.

On the other hand, Gutiérrez landed four more aces to raise his total to 18, one more than the previous record of 17 shared by Mexican Raymond Stephens and Pedro Molina set also in 2017.

The blocking record for a single game changed of hands over the course of the third edition of the event.

First, Chilean Vicente Valenzuela tied the record of 6 set in 2011 by Mexican Zamudio Rodriguez and then Allen broke the mark with 7 against the Dominican Republic on April 25.

The mark set by Allen had a short living as Dominican Dawilin Méndez recorded 8 on April 27 against Puerto Rico.
