Antigua opens up with win over Saba

 

ST. JOHN’s, Antigua and Barbuda, August 22, 2019: Antigua and Barbuda had to withstand a gutsy effort from Saba, to trump 3-0( 25- 18, 25-15, 25-20), in match two of the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Under-20 Female Volleyball Tournament, here at the YMCA Sporting Complex.

 

Seizing the moments in front of their home crowd, the Antiguans were workmanlike, as Saba provided some intermittent resistance.

 

With a total of 20 points, Antigua’s Captain – Nashea Browne was the lead scorer, with the topscorer for Saba, being Lyieshah Peterson, with 3 points.

 

Antigua and Barbuda won on Blocks 4-0 and on Serves 30-5.

 

Assessing her team’s winning performance, Nashea Browne commented: “I feel very pleased with my personal performance and that of my team for winning this first match”.

 

Browne said being positive and encouragement from one another, were the impetuses for them always staying ahead of the opponents.

 

Looking forward to their second match versus Bermuda, Browne projected: “We are looking for the same positive energy when we face Bermuda in our next match and win again”.

 

And, despite their defeat, Saba’s Head Coach- Germaine Zimmerman: “It was a good fight… The players gave of their best in their first outing”.  

 

Zimmerman promised that there will be no easy walk over, as the will be giving their all in their upcoming matches.

 

Also, Lyieshah Peterson, Saba’s Captain was overjoyed at her team’s efforts.

 

“My team surprised me with their play, as being our first time out, we did not expect to come to close to Antigua”, Peterson reviewed.

 

 Pumped with energy, Peterson said with a broad grin, “We are ready for our next match against St Lucia”.

 

Saba takes on St Lucia in match three.
