Mexicans Virgen and Miramontes debut with double win
 

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 8, 2011. - Juan Virgen and Aldo Miramontes of Mexico scored two victories in their debut of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit 2011 during the men’s opening day at Campo Marte, Guatemala pn Friday.

 

The duo, Virgen/Miramontes crushed Mark Lomeli/Anthony Pippen of US Virgin Islands 21-8 in both sets and later on prevailed over Erick Garrido/Andy Leonardo 2-0 (21-17, 21-11) from Guatemala-1, in the actions of Pool C.

 

Team USA-1, Jason Wight and Michael Bruning had also two triumphs in Pool D. In their first match, Americans defeated Guatemala-2, Julio Recinos/Rodrigo Gonzalez 2-0 (21-6, 21-16) and with a lot more effort they prevailed over Samuel Schachter/Maverick Hatch of Canada-2 by 24-22 and 21-17.

 

An exciting duel was held between Dominicans Yewddy Perez/German Recio and Cubans Karel Peña/Javier Jimenez that extended to a three set battle, with victory for the young Dominicans by 21-17, 15-21, 15-12, in Pool E. Peña/Jimenez had defeated earlier Costa Ricans Raul Sandoval/Julio Alvarez, 21-13, 21-14; while Perez/Recio had lost to Steven Vanderwerp/Matt McKinney of USA-2, in three sets 16-21, 21-18, 15-8.

 

For Pool A, Canada-1 with Christian Redmann/Benjamin Saxton downed Fabien Whitfield/Daniel Williams 2-0 (21-11, 21-15) of Trinidad & Tobago in their only match of the day. As for Whitfield/Williams had a victory over Carl Steadroy Collins/Kemoroy Percival of St. Kitts & Nevis 21-6 and 21-16.

 

With one match and one win, Roberto Rodriguez/Christopher Underwood of Puerto Rico in Pool B, defeated Jeovanny Medrano/David Vargas of El Salvador 2-0 (21-13, 21-14). And Medrano/Vargas added one victory crushing Douglas Izaguirre/Manfredo Hernandez of Honduras in the first match of the men’s division, 2-0 (21-9, 21-19).

 

Actions will continue on Saturday morning with the end of the pool play round.
