Dominican Republic sinks Jamaica

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 29, 2010 – Dominican Republic downed Jamaica in straight sets (25-4, 25-4, 25-2) finishing with a 2-1 mark in Pool C of NORCECA Girls’ Youth Championship. The Jamaicans ended winless in three outings during the preliminary round.

The strong serves and spikes of the powerful Dominican side were keys for the victory. The winners scored 19 points via aces.

Elizabeth Martinez topped the winners with 15 points and Rosario de Paula and Pamela Soriano added 12 and 8 points respectively.

“Our serves were very good and the opponents also had problems with their reception, so it was a combination of things for us,” said Dominican Captain Nairobi Agramonte.

Coach Giovanni Sibilia added: “We have a good chance to advance to the semi final round. I don’t want to underestimate the other teams but we are very capable. Our overall game is working well although we need to improve the blocking.”
