Cubans Sinal and Ballar show their power in Day One at Guatemala


GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 9, 2010.- Top seeded Cubans Nirian Sinal and Kirenia Ballar, claimed two victories during the first day of action at the fourth stop of NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.

 

Sinal and Ballar downed Shanique Green and  Cheryl Daley of Jamaica 2-0 (21-9, 21-10) in 37 minutes and in their second match won easily against Recinos/Lopez 2-0 (21-11, 21-10) of GUA-2.

 

The Cubans showed their superior talent and are confident of taking home the gold. “Our goal is to reach the final, win the leg and successfully defend the title we won here last year,” said Nirian.

 

Both teams of Canada looked strong and with good chances of a berth in the finals after winning also their two contests of Friday.

 

Katherine Zakrzewski and Julie Rodriguez of CAN-1 defeated hosts Maria Jose Orellana and Lourdes Ramirez of GUA-1, 2-1 (22-24, 21-17, 15-9) and came back to beat Dania Hamilton and Samantha Mann of Saint Lucia (21-12, 21-8). Meanwhile, Rebecca Moskowitz/Eve Dansereau of CAN-2 defeated Ingrid Morales y Natalia Alfaro of CRC (21-13, 21-13) and Honore/Dyette of TRI (21-18, 21-14).

 

Also with two victories are Ivonne Soler and Laura Molina of El Salvador. They won against the Dominican twins Selmo (12-21, 21-18, 15-7), and  over GUA-3 (21-09, 21-10).
