Arubans Rafini and Arends debut winning in Buenos Aires

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, October 8, 2018 – Mali Rafini and Kayla Arends of Aruba came out winners in their debut at the beach volleyball tournament of the Youth Olympic Games on Monday.

Playing in Pool F, Rafini and Arends won a three-set battle against Valentine Munezero and Peneloppe Musabiyama of Rwanda 2-1 (21-15, 18-21, 15-13).

Also in Pool F, Venezuela’s Diana Ramírez and Urimar Narváez edged Karla Romero and Atenas Gutiérrez of Mexico in another big duel by scores of 2-1 (15-21, 21-15, 15-10)

In Pool B, Ana Carolina dos Santos and Thamela Coradello (BRA) defeated Adicia Burton and Ethlyne Renitta of Dominica 2-0 (21-8, 21-4) and Maria Voronina and Mariia Bocharova of Russia subdued Dana Roskic and Erika Vermette of Canada 2-0 (21-15, 21-15).

Two male teams from NORCECA lost three-set matches on Monday.

In Pool E, Cubans Miguel Ayon and Jorge Alayo (CUB) fell to Javier Bello and Joaquín Bello of Great Britain 2-1 (19-21, 21-12, 15-8).

In Pool D, Puerto Ricans Randall Santiago and William Rivera lost to Danny Leon and Joffre Jurado of Ecuador 2-1 (17-21, 21-18, 15-13)
