MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 24, 2012 - Guatemala beat Antigua & Barbuda by 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-13) for their first victory at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship.

The Guatemalans took advantage of 30 errors from the losers and were better in the serves category 14-1. Guatemala will play Trinidad & Tobago for the seventh position of the tournament while Antigua & Barbuda finished in ninth place.

The best scorer for the winners was Ada Villalobos with 12 points, including 2 blocks and 3 aces. Natasha Best had 6 points for Antigua & Barbuda.

“We can do better but we weren’t bad today either,” Guatemala’s Captain Ada Villalobos said. “We followed our coach’s instructions and that’s why the result turned out favorable.”

Shawn-Marie Dinard captain for Antigua & Barbuda said: “Watching girls of a higher level than my team motivates us to work harder specially in our jumps and that way they will get more out of their spikes.”

Julio Dominguez coach for Guatemala expressed: “The team continues to add and these matches allow us to put in practice all our training and that’s why all the players stepped on the floor; we still have tomorrow’s match which is more competitive and the team will have a chance for a higher rhythm.”

Coach Rosely Lewis said: “Unfortunately I’m disappointed, we played a lot of practice games before coming here and it seems as if everything we taught them they forgot”.
