USA improves to 5-2 at World Grand Prix

 

HONG KONG, China, August 20, 2010 – The USA overwhelmed Germany in straight sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-13) on Friday as the two sides continued their 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix campaigns in Hong Kong. The Americans improved their overall record to 5-2. Destinee Hooker led USA with 20 points, Logan Tom contributed 14 and Jordan Larson added 9 points.

 

In Tokyo, host Japan overcame a dogged Dominican Republic in four sets (25-15, 23-25, 31-29, 25-20) to improve their record to 6-1 in the FIVB World Grand Prix in Tokyo on Friday. The Dominican Republic now drop to 2-5.

 

Kaori Inoue topped Japan with 18 points while Mai Yamaguchi and Saori Kimura added 17 and 16 respectively. Dominican Lisvel Eve led her side with 18 points, Dahiana Burgos chipped in 13 and Marianne Fersola charted 12 points.

 

In Taipei, Brazil continued their march to the Final Round of the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix with an emphatic straight sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-20) win over Puerto Rico.

 

Paula Pequeño led Brazil with 11 points and Adenizia Silva, Thaisa Menezes and Jaqueline Carvalho each recorded nine points. Aurea Cruz and Sarai Alvarez had 12 and 10 for Puerto Rico.
