Aury Cruz is the seventh reach the 30-point mark

MEXICO CITY, Mexico, June 19, 2014 – Aury Cruz became the seventh player in the history of the Pan American Cup to score 30 points in a single game as she carried Puerto Rico to a five-set victory over Argentina in the match for the bronze medal on Thursday.

Cruz registered 30 points, including two blocks and one ace, to join the exclusive club topped by Dominican Republic’s Sidarka Nuñez with 37 in 2008 against United States.

On the process, Cruz established a new record for Puerto Rican players in the intercontinental event, breaking the old mark of 29 set by her sister Eva Cruz, who scored 29 points in a match against Brazil in 2005.

Next to Nuñez in the 30-plus Club are Kristin Richards (United States) 35, Samantha Bricio (Mexico), 32, Sheilla Castro (Brazil) 31, Nicole Fawcett (United States), 30, Verania Willis (Costa Rica) 30, and Aury Cruz (Puerto Rico) 30.
