Barbados to host CAZOVA Juniors in December

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, November 11, 2015 - One decade after staging and winning the inaugural Junior Caribbean Volleyball Championships, Barbados launched the 10th edition with the promise that "Generation Next" would bring tremendous exciting and victory in the December 7th to 14th event.

In an impressive ceremony held at Barbados Beach Club, Maxwell Coast Road and which was attended by president of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association, CAZOVA, Mushtaque Mohammed, president of the Barbados Volleyball Association, John Griffith, Manager of Operations of the Barbados Olympic Association, Glyne Clarke and many of the junior players, commitment was given that all systems were on stream for a successful tournament.

Clarke praised the BVA for repeatedly achieving success in hosting various regional and international events while subscribing to the Government's suggestion that a big sporting event should be staged in Barbados every year.

President Mohammed expressed pride that Barbados saw volleyball and the hosting of a volleyball championship as a big event since many regional groups did not consider that volleyball was a big sporting affair.  Mohammed reminded the large gathering that the 1995 senior CVC which was held in Barbados still remained as the biggest and best ever held and that he and the region looked forward to seeing a repeat in December.

In a touching scenario, Barbados held a passing of the legacy where former national team greats Andrew Culpepper and Andy Jordan "passed the ball" to their off-springs Andriy Stapleton and Ashley Jordan respectively who will be key members of the Barbados junior teams.

In their time at the podium both Jordan and Stapleton asked all of Barbados to come out and give support to the yellow, black and blue as the next generation of volleyballers seeks to regain glory in CAZOVA.  Barbados won the boys' title in 1997, 2005 and 2013.  Martinique are the girls' defending champions.

Martinique is the only nation to have won both the boys' and girls' title with the boys reaping success in 1999.  The Netherland Antilles join Barbados boys with three crowns while the Trinidad &Tobago girls are by far the most successful nation having won the title a whopping six times with four of those victories occurring in succession.

The women’s teams taking part are: Barbados, Curacao, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Martinique, Trinidad & Tobago and the U. S. Virgin Islands.  The men’s teams are:  Barbados, Aruba, Curacao, Guadeloupe, Martinique, The Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago and the U. S. Virgin Islands.
