Beach Volleyball Training Course in Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, November 10, 2015 - A Beach Volley Training course under the auspices of NORCECA and FIVB was held from November 2-6, at the Olympic Center Sport for Hope, by FIVB Instructor André Trottier.

This is Mr. Trottier’s second visit to Haiti with the first dating back November 2014 when he taught an FIVB Refereeing course.

Thirty-five players, coaches, physical education teachers, coming from 12 towns throughout Haiti participated in the course.

Towns represented were:   Cap-Haitien,  Port-Margot,  Quartier Morin,  Bord de  Mer de Limonade,  Ouanaminthe,  Mombin Crochu,  Hinche,  Croix-des-Bouquets,  Port-au-Prince,  Petit Goave,  Miragoane, les Cayes.

The course comprised in-class sessions, held from 9:30 to 12:30, during which videos of beach volleyball games that took place during the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2015 World Championships were played for participants, and practical sessions in the afternoon from 1:30 to 2:30.

According to participants, they greatly benefited from the course which allowed them to learn the game’s techniques and subtleties, since beach volleyball involves only two players per team on a court measuring 8 meters by 8 meters.

Next steps:  the organization of local beach volleyball tournaments over the next few months.   From these tournaments, the National Federation will identify, among other things, the best pairs who will represent Haiti at the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit in 2016.
