Brazil grabs second victory at the U21 Pan Am Cup

FORT MCMURRAY, ALBERTA, CANADA:  Guatemala was overwhelmed by Brazil today 0-3 (14-25, 10-25, 11-25) at the U21 Pan American Cup at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre at Keyano College in Fort McMurray.

Brazil’s Victor Cardoso led a strong full-squad effort with 11 points, followed by Felipe Roque with eight points. Erik Flores again was the top scorer for the losing side, with seven points.

Tomorrow Brazil faces tournament hosts Canada.

“This match is really to prepare for the next match tomorrow against Canada,” said Nery Tambeiro, head coach of Brazil.  “Canada, Cuba and Brazil are at a level above the other teams, and tomorrow we will really see at what stage we are at against these other strong teams.”

Guatemala lost to Canada last night 3-0.

Guatemala’s coach Reider Lucas is aware of his team’s shortcomings, but is hopeful for the next match.   “Brazil demonstrated yesterday they were a strong team and today they played even better. Our guys did everything possible but they couldn’t make it happen. The difference with Brazil is very big. We’re still making mistakes that we have to work on and I hope next game we can come out stronger,” he said.
