Brazil wins World Cup with perfect 11-0 record

HIROSHIMA, Japan, October 14, 2019 - Brazil secured the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup title at a packed Hiroshima Green Arena on Monday, beating hosts Japan 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-14, 27-25) to claim their third World Cup crown.

The Brazilians completed their perfect run at 11-0 with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-18) over Italy on Tuesday. Alan Souza was named MVP and received his plaque from Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, First Executive Vice President of FIVB.

Also, Matthew Anderson scored a match-high 17 points as the United States beat Egypt 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-13) as the Americans finished in third place with a 9-2 record and 27 points, one less than Poland who finished second also with a 9-2 mark.

In the last match of Tuesday, Japan edged a gripping final match 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 15-9) over Canada, spurred to victory by Kunihiro Shimizu, who notched 25 points at Hiroshima Green Arena. Canada finished with a 4-7 record.
