Canada and United States reach semifinals in Punta Cana

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, September 16, 2017 – Teams representing Canada and United States teams will meet each other in the women’s semifinals of the Punta Cana Beach Volleyball Tournament, the fifth leg of the2017 NORCECA Circuit.

Top-seeded Julie Gordon and Sophie Bukovec of Canada-A will be playing second-seeded Megan Nagy and Marie Lapointe of Canada-B at 9:00 am in what promises to be an exciting clash.

The other semifinal features a duel between third-seeded Jace Pardon and Lara Dykstra of United States-A against No. 9 Delaney Knudsen and Corinne Quiggle of United States-B, winners of Pool C. Knudsen/Quiggle won the pool match between them by scores of 2-0 (21-12, 21-17).

Gordon/Bukovec, winners of Pool A, won their quarterfinal match against Melanie Valenciana and Katherine Wanket of U.S: Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-10, 21-14) in 27 minutes. Nagy/Lapointe, winners of Pool B, cruised to a 2-0 (21-12, 21-12) win over Guadeloupe’s Fanny Katarzynsky and Caroline Caro in 33 minutes.

In the quarterfinals, Pardon/Dykstra defeated Puerto Rico’s Aury Cruz and Ashley Vásquez 2-0 (21-11, 21-12) in 33 minutes, while Knudsen/Quiggle outlasted Mexico’s Stephanie Burnside and Paulette Cruz 2-0 (21-19, 21-17) in 39 minutes.

Quarterfinals: CAN-B d GPE 2-0 (21-12, 21-12), CAN-A d ISV 2-0 (21-10, 21-14), USA-A d PUR 2-0 (21-11, 21-12), USA-B d MEX 2-0 (21-19, 21-17.
