Canada overcomes Peru in Group 2

RICHMOND, Canada, July 22, 2017 – Canada overcame Peru to claim a 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-21) victory on Saturday In Group 2 of FIVB World Grand Prix.

Kyla Richey and Elizabeth Wendel recorded 22 and 20 points, respectively, to lead the offense of Canada which improved to a 3-5 record.

Maguilaura Frias and Katherine Olemar each had 11 for Peru while Mirtha Uribe and Angela Leyva each had 10 points in the loss.

Canada dominated Peru at the net by registering 18 blocks to 6 by the defeated side.

In Varazdin, Croatia, Argentina swept Puerto Rico 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 behind the attack of Camila Hiruela and Tanya Acosta who each scored 15 points in the victory. Puerto Rico evened their record at 4-4.

Hiruela enjoyed an all-around performance with two aces, three kill blocks and 10 attacks, while Lucia Fresco added 10 points for the winners. None of Puerto Rico’s players reached double figures in scoring.
