Canadian pairs move on to semis in Commonwealth Games
GOLD COAST, Australia, April 10, 2018 – Canada’s men and women
beach volleyball teams are in the semifinals of the Gold Coast
2018 Commonwealth Games at Queen Elizabeth Park in Coolangatta.
In the men’s segment, Sam Schachter and Sam Pedlow will go
against New Zealand’s brothers Sam and Ben O’Dea. The other
semifinal will have
Chris Gregory and Jake Sheaf of England against Australia’s
Damien Schubert and Christopher McHugh.
Schachter and Pedlow defeated Cyprus’ Dimitris Apostolou and
Georgios Chrysostomou 2-0 (21-17, 21-15), while the O’Dea
brothers beat Trinidad and Tobago’s Daneil Williams and Daynte
Stewart 2-0 (21-15, 21-14).
In the women’s competition FIVB World Ranking leaders Melissa
Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan moved a step closer to the
women’s gold medal match by advancing to the last four.
The Canadian pair beat Scotland’s Lynne Beattie and Melissa
Coutts 2-0 (21-9, 21-9), and they will take on Mariota
Angelopoulou and Manolina Konstantinou after the Cypriot duo
beat New Zealand’s Shaunna Polley and Kelsie Wills 2-0 (21-10,
21-17).
Canada and Trinidad & Tobago both had men and women in the
tournament while St. Kitts and Nevis men and Grenada women also
took part in the first ever beach volleyball tournament in the
Games.
NORCECA Confederation is also represented among the technical
officials as the control committee of the competition is
comprised of Canada’s Ed Drakich and Andre Trotier as technical
and referee delegate, respectively. Trinidadian Mushtaque
Mohammed is member while Brian Hiebert (Canada), Martin Swsey
(Belize), Julien Seraphine (St Lucia) and Kenneth Waugh
(Jamaica) are among the referees. |
