Canadians Gordon and Bukovec triumphed in Punta Cana

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, September 17, 2017 – Canadians Julie Gordon and Sophie Bukovec defeated USA’s Jace Pardon and Lara Dykstra to claim the women’s gold medal at the Punta Cana Beach Volleyball Tournament, the fifth leg of the 2017 NORCECA Circuit on Sunday.

The Gordon/Bukovec duo prevailed in a close contest over Pardon/Dykstra 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) to obtain the title.

It was the second title of the year for Bukovec who had won in Ocho Rios, Jamaica playing alongside Jamie Broder. Gordon also won her second career gold and seventh overall medal in NORCECA.

In the semifinal phase, Gordon/Bukovec defeated compatriots Megan Nagy and Marie Lapointe 2-0 (21-13, 21-14) while Pardon/Dykstra edged the also Americans Delaney Knudsen and Corine Quiggle 2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-11).

The bronze medal went to Knudsen/Quiggle who outclassed Nagy/Lapointe 2-0 (21-14, 21-11).
