Central Americans secure spots in men’s quarterfinals

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, September 29, 2018 – Three men’s quarterfinals matches are defined at the Punta Cana Beach Volleyball Tournament, the fourth stop of the 2018 NORCECA Circuit.

Part of the afternoon and evening sessions had to be cancelled due to bad weather conditions. Play is expected to resume on early Sunday.

Eric Zaun and Avery Drost of United States-A are scheduled to meet the winners of the match between Isaac Theodore and Marlon Phillip of Trinidad & Tobago and Puerto Ricans Cristian Encarnación and Josué Rivera.

Cubans Karell Peña and Luis Reyes will clash with Nicaraguans Rubén Mora and Dany Lopez while Mexicans Josué Gaxiola and José Rubio will be pitted against Richard Smith and Bryan Monge of Costa Rica.

The other quarterfinals contest features Colombians Denis Sebastian and Sneider Rivas against Sergei Gravobsky and Fiodar Khazamaiaka.

Mora and Lopez advanced after a 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) over Canadians Cameron Wheelan and Gabriel Burlacu while Smith and Monge defeated Daneil Williams and Daynte Stewart 2-1 (21-18, 12-21, 15-12).

Gravobsky and Kazhamaiaka won their place in the quarterfinals with a 2-0 (21-17, 21-19) victory over Branden Clemens and Ben Vaught of United States.
