Chile snags sixth place at the U21 Pan Am Cup

FORT MCMURRAY, Canada, May 21. 2017 - Chile took sixth place at the U21 Pan American Cup at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre at Keyano College in Fort McMurray.

The Chileans swept Barbados 0-3 (20-25, 18-25, 17-25), relegating Barbados to seventh place out of seven teams.

“We played better than yesterday. We made some mistakes during the game, but the most important was to finish with a win so I’m very happy,” said Daniel Nejamkin, Chile’s head coach.

Bastian Fuentes was Chile’s top scorer with 15 points.

Julio Alberto Caballero, the coach of the Caribbean side, admitted his team lacked in some areas:  “Today we played better than against Guatemala, but anyway it was not enough.  They are not physically as well prepared as they should be – they can start, but they cannot be consistent and as technical as they should be….. They have to be better to compete at this level; they showed that they played a better system against teams like Canada and Brazil.  Today it was different, you can see their performance is tired.”

Also today, Canada plays Guatemala for the bronze medal, and Brazil and Cuba face off for the gold!
