Colombia and United States to battle for fifth place

 

   

TORONTO, Canada, July 20, 2015. – Andrea and Claudia Galindo of Colombia and Kelley Larsen with Betsi Metter of the United States will battle for fifth place at the women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament of the Toronto Pan American Games.

 

Colombian sisters Andrea and Claudia Galindo beat Costa Rica’s Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro in three sets 20-13, 19-21, 15-12 to play for the fifth place of the competition. Galindo sisters were strong, more connected and confident in their moves; the Central American duo had a better performance in the second set where Karen was strong over the net.

 

Kelley Larsen and Betsi Metter of United States dominated Eugenia Nieto and Fabiana Gomez  of Uruguay mostly with powerful serves 2-0 (21-12, 21-10) to play Colombia for the fifth place.

 

In other placing matches, Mexican Bibiana Candelas and Marta Revuelta defeated Francisca Rivas and Pilar Mardones of Chile 2-0 (21-17, 22-20) for ninth place. El Salvador’s Ivonne Soler and Laura Molina finished in eleventh place beating Lina Bernier and Eva Torruella of Puerto Rico in three intense sets 2-1 (23-25, 21-19, 16-14).

5-8 positions: COL d CRC 2-0 (21-13, 19-21, 15-12); USA d URU 2-0 (21-12, 21-10)

9-10: positions: MEX d CHI 2-0 (21-17, 22-20); 11-12 positions: ESA d PUR 2-1 (23-25, 21-19, 16-14)
