Costa Rica books their podium spot

 

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, September 9, 2017.- Costa Rica defeated Honduras 3-0  (25-16, 25-17, 25-14) booking their spot at the XVII AFECAVOL U-21 Men’s Central American Championship podium.

 

Costa Rica was strong from point one as they were aiming for the best result to reach the tournament’s podium. Honduras needed to win if they wanted to win a medal, but Costa Rica’s powerful surprise took them from surprise.

 

Costa Rica prevailed in every aspect of the game, (38-24) in spikes, (8-5) in blocks and (2-0) in serves. Manrrique Carazo was Costa Rica’s top scorer with 13 points, supported by Andres Ortiz with 10 points. Alex Godoy led Honduras with 8 points.

 

Alejandro Castillo, Head coach of Honduras explained “it was a complicated match; with two sessions a day it is very hard for the players to recover physically, added to the fact that Costa Rica is a very tactical team”.

 

Juan Acuña, Head coach of Costa Rica commented “yes, we booked a spot at the podium, but we can’t be happy because we wanted to win the gold medal. We are making some changes at both youth and junior categories as we want players with more height; its hard work that will be done one step at a time”.
