Costa Rica improves to 2-0 at U23
 

PANAMA CITY, Panama, August 24, 2014 – Costa Rica defeated Guatemala 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) for its second victory in as many outings in the U23 Men’s Central American Championship on Sunday at Jose “Beto” Remon Gymnasium on Sunday.

 

The Costa Ricans showed no signs of fatigue after playing five sets in the last match of Saturday en route to a win over hosts Panama. They have now 8 points from the two victories.

 

Javier Alvarez and Alberto Blanco were the best two scorers for Costa Rica with 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Cesar Gomez chipped in with 7 tallies.

 

Carlos Lopez topped Guatemala with 11 points while Leonel Aragon and Gerardo Gonzalez each registered 7 points.

 

Costa Rica held a big advantage in service aces 9-3 and also had the edge in blocks 9-6. The winners made 29 unforced errors to 25 by the losers.
