Costa Rica repeat as U20 Champions of Afecavol

BELIZE CITY, Belize, July 22, 107 - Costa Rica defeated the unbeaten Honduras 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-16) to claim the gold medal at the XVII U20 Women’s Volleyball Central American Championship.

Both teams finished with 4-1 win-loss record but Costa Rica accumulated 25 points from their matches to 21 for Honduras.

It is the second title in a row for Costa Rica and ninth overall while Honduras improved from the bronze medal they won last time. Guatemala dropped from second to third place after winning the titles in 2011 and 2013.

The opposite Yuriana Aguilar led Costa Rica with 15 points along 10 from Santa Volkovs and 9 points from captain Edya Espinoza. For Honduras, Reer Connor ad Nathaly Pérez each had 8 points in the loss.

Guatemala secured the bronze medal by defeating El Salvador 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-16) who finished in sixth place.

María Juárez and Kimberli Cardona each contributed 11 points in the victory while Paola Alvarado added 10. Marisol Sánchez had 8 points for El Salvador.

Nicaragua finished in fourth place following the victory 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-16) ober Belize who finished in fifth place.

Dalia Conto had 14 points for Nicaragua followed by Maria Campos with 11. Kori Diego had a match-high 20 for Belize while Mya Musa finished with 11 in the losing cause.
