Costa Rican Boys qualify to Argentina Youth Olympics
PUNTARENAS, Costa Rica, March 12, 2018 – Alexandre Lezcano and
Criforth Fallas of Costa Rica claimed a ticket to the Youth
Olympic Games after winning the Boys’ U19 AFECAVOL Beach
Volleyball Tournament with an undefeated 6-0 win-loss mark.
Lezcano/Fallas overcame the teams of Guatemala, Nicaragua and
Panama on Sunday to complete a great tournament where they won
all their matches.
The Costa Ricans first defeated Edgard Maldonado and David
Ismalej of Guatemala 2-0 (21-14, 21-8) and then edged
Nicaragua’s Jefferson Cascante and Christopher Cascante in three
sets 2-1 (21-18, 9-21, 15-3) with the support of the fans who
came to Puntarenas to root for the home team.
Lezcano and Fallas completed their successful tournament with a
2-0 (21-3. 21-10) lopsided win over Panama.
Nicaragua finished in second place (5-1) after winning 2-0
(21-15, 21-12) over Belize’s Francis Hauze and Michael Jenkins
and 2-0 (21-19, 21-14) against Guatemala.
El Salvador’s twins Yoel and Christopher Guardado finished in
third place following a surprising victory over Guatemala.
Four years ago, Guatemala was the Central American
representative to the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games with Nicaragua
in second place. |
