Cruising victory for Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 29, 2018 – Host Dominican Republic beat Guatemala in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-17) in the second match of day one at the Horacio –Chichí- Mazara Men’s Volleyball Cup on Friday in Santo Domingo.

It was a cruising victory for the local side who did not use their star player Elvis Contreras while Jose Cáceres only played in the third set.

The big serves from the Dominican side created a major obstacle for the Guatemalans as the winners scored 11 aces against 1 by the defeated team.

Guatemala had the advantage in blocks (6-3) but the Dominican Republic had an overwhelming lead in attacks (43-23).

Wilfrido Hernández led the winners with 13 points, while Pedro García and Henry Lopez each added 12 points. Carlos López was the only player of Guatemala who reached double figures with 10.
