Cuba and Puerto Rico to play in Final NORCECA Qualifier

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 26, 2017 – Cuba and Puerto Rico will participate in a final NORCECA Men’s World Championship Qualification Tournament along with the teams placed fourth and fifth at the Continental Championship that begins on Tuesday in Colorado Springs.

Neither of the two teams were able to travel to Colorado due to complications of force majeure generated by the path of hurricanes Irma and Maria throughout the Caribbean zone.

Cuba and Puerto Rico are ranked third and fifth, respectively, by NORCECA. United and Canada are first and second while Mexico is fourth.

The place and dates of the final tournament will be announced within the next seven days, said Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA Confederation.

The 10-team Continental Championship in Colorado Springs offers now three tickets to next year’s FIVB Men’s World Championship in Bulgaria and Italy.

The teams in Colorado Springs are hosts United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Martinique, Mexico, St Lucia, St Vincent & Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago.
