Cuba defeats Trinidad and Tobago in straight sets

GUANAJUATO, Mexico, September 6, 2016 – Cuba had no problems to begin its participation at the Men’s U23 Pan Am Cup by winning in straight sets against Trinidad and Tobago. Scores were 25-22, 25-12 and 25-7.

Osniel Malgrejo totalized 17 points for the Cuban squad that needed 52 minutes to grant a victory. For the Trinidadians, Nicholas Prescott, Adriel Roberts and capitain Marlon Phillip scored six points apiece.

Cuba overpassed Trinidad and Tobago 14-1 in blocks and 11-1 in serves, with four aces by Miguel Gutierrez and three for Osniel Rendon.

“Attack is our strength and the service power that our guys have is very good, success is based on that. This is one more step for us. We look to qualify and finish in first place in our group,” Cuban coach Jesus Cruz stated.

“This match was to get on track with our game. Our game is very strong. We came here to this competition with one single goal. That goal is to finish in first place, and thus, step by step, we’ll be getting in our game,” said Cuban captain Adrian Goide.
