Cuba get their second win in Cordoba at CACG

 

CORDOBA, Mexico, November 16, 2014 - Cuba registered their second victory at the XXII Central American and Caribbean Games after beating Venezuela 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-12).

 

For the second time in a row, Melissa Vargas, finished with double digits after closing with a total of 18 points. Roslandy Acosta was Venezuela’s top scorer with a total of 8 points. Cuba finished with 9 collective ases, four of them by Gracia and three by Vargas. Venezuela gave up 19 points while Cuba 22.

 

Desiree Glod, captain of Venezuela stated: “I want to congratulate Cuba, they have really improved a lot. I think that we played much better than yesterday, but we made a lot of mistakes and we hope to improve in our next match against Colombia.”

 

Caridad Matienzo, captain of Cuba said: “Venezuela played a great game. We knew that they would not give any points easily. We had to work with strong plays, with a good service strategy and with a high jump over the net.”

 

Sergio Rivero, coach of Venezuela: “Congratulations to Cuba, my native country. Venezuela came to this competition without previous preparation. I think we can give more. We faced a very strong cuban team.”

 

Juan Carlos Gala, coach of Cuba: “We know that it was going to be tough. Mi colleague (Sergio Rivero) and I have worked together. We know each other, but we lent him to Venezuela. The both of us played based in a serving strategy. The first two sets were very tight. We have a very young team, that sometimes have their ups and downs.
