Cuba to the World Challengers Cup
 

HAVANA, Cuba June 15, 2018.- The Cuban men's team travels next Sunday to Portugal to attend the final of the World Cup of Volleyball Challengers based in the port city of Matosinhos, in Oporto, from 20 to 25 next.


The West Indians will compete against the Czech Republic, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Chile and the hosts in pursuit of the only ticket in dispute for the FIVB National League 2019.


Ariel Saínz, president of the Cuban Federation (FCV), thanked the collaboration of the embassies of Portugal and Spain, as well as the Minrex and the International Relations Directorate of the Inder to obtain the visa in such a short time.


The young team of the island won this place by winning the previous week unbeaten in the Tournament of Challengers Norceca area, held in the western province of Pinar del Rio, where Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago, and Costa Rica were located.


The squad is led by Miguel David Gutiérrez, corner attackers Miguel Ángel López and Osniel Mergarejo, center-backs Liván Osoria (captain) and Javier Concepción, and passer Adrián Goide.


The auxiliary attackers Marlon Yang and Javier Jiménez, the central Roamy Alonso, the opposite José Carlos Romero, the setter Liván Taboada and the libero Yonder García complete the payroll.
