Cuba, USA and Canada in Women’s Semifinals at La Paz
LA PAZ, Mexico, April 8, 2012 – Cubans Lidiannis Echeverria and
Leila Martinez will face the challenge from the USA team of
Kelley Larsen and Betsi Flint in the semifinals of La Paz Beach
Volleyball Tournament while two Canadian duos will be pitted in
the other Final Four contest on Sunday.
Defending champion Brandie Wilkerson, playing this time with
Heather Bansley will meet fellow Canadians Kristina May and
Taylor Pischke in the other semifinal match.
The very athletic Echeverria and Martinez cruised past
Nicaragua’s Swan Mendoza and Lolette Rodriguez 2-0 (21-10,
21-11) despite the effort by the losing pair.
Larsen and Flint also had an easy route to the semifinals
following their 2-0 (21-11, 21-9) victory against Costa Rica’s
Valerie Valenciano and Marcela Araya.
Wilkerson and Bansley of Canada-A advanced to the semifinals
following a grueling three-set 2-1 (28-26, 15-21, 15-9) victory
over Brittany Hochevar and Emily Day of United States-A.
May and Pischke advanced with a comfortable victory 2-0 (21-15,
21-15) over Mexico’s Claudia Rios and Xitlali Herrera.
