Cyprus, Ghana, England and Australia to Boys Semis in Bahamas

 

NASSAU, Bahamas, July 20, 2017 – The tandems of Cyprus, Ghana, England and Australia moved into the final four round of the boys’ beach volleyball tournament at the Youth Commonwealth Games Bahamas 2017.

 

In a mouthwatering match, Cyprus’ Constantino Skordis and Sotiris Siapanis prevailed against New Zealand’s Tyran Gillepsi and Keegan Tai Joe 2-1 (24-22, 19-21, 15-8) in 48 minutes of exciting actions.

 

Ghana’s Kevin Carboo and Eric Tsatsu had a picnic day as they breezed past St Lucia’s Levin Leonce and Kyhim Remy 2-0 (21-5, 21-12) in just 27 minutes.

 

Meanwhile, England’s twins Luis Javier and Joaquín Bello advanced to the semis via a 2-0 (21-10, 21-17) win over South Africa’s Lukholo Jooste and Aviwe Mamfanya in 39 minutes.

 

The final quarterfinals contest saw Australians Mark Nikolaidis and James Takken sweeping Papua New Guinea’s Damiel Aisi and Tonnie Gima 2-0 (21-11, 21-12)

 

In Friday’s semifinals Skordis/Siapanis meet Carboo/Tsatsu while Bello/Bello take on Niolaidis/Takken.

 

Quarterfinals: CYP d NZL 2-1 (24-22, 19-21, 15-8), GHA d LCA 2-0 (21-5, 21-12), ENG d RSA 2-0 (21-10, 21-17), AUS d PNG 2-0 (21-11, 21-12). Qualification Positions 5-12: JAM d BAH 2-0 (21-17, 21-16), TTO d BAH-B 2-0 (21-8, 21-15). Losers Quarterfinals: NZL d LCA 2-0 (21-0, 21-0), RSA d PNG 2-1 (24-26, 21-15, 15-9).
