Dominican Republic hold training camp in the Balkans before WWCH

SLOVENIA, September 16 2014 - The National Women’s Team of Dominican Republic will make their debut at the FIVB World Championship in Italy on September 23rd against Germany.

However, in order to prepare for the competition, the Caribbean team started a training camp in the Balkans, as an important strategy before departing to Rome.

The Dominican coaching staff has already chosen the 12 athletes that will represent the country at the quadriennial tournament.

Dominican Republic has classified five times in a row to the Senior’s World Championship, considering the tickets granted in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014.

National Teams Proyect President and Norceca President, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz stated that the Caribbean team is preparing at this training camp in Slovenia, due to the conditions and high level of the Balkanic teams.

Yonkaira Peña and Brayelin Martínez made the trip from Peru to Slovenia to join the senior’s national team after competing at the Women’s U23 Pan American Cup, where the team won the Gold Medal.

Also Brazilian coach Wagner Pacheco and statistitian Yeivic Jimenez, traveled to Eastern Europe as part of the delegation. “Players departed on September 8th with the goal of beginning their adaptation in Europe and to finish their training sessions”, Marte Hoffiz said.

Also on September 21, the team will travel to Wien Austria, before departing to Rome the next day to take part at the World Championship.

“There is a good feeling and team spirit in the athletes. They have recovered from injuries and that is important. They are focused on their work”, Marte Hoffiz remarked.
