Dominican Republic third in Mazara Cup

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 3, 2018- Dominican Republic captured the third place of the International Volleyball Cup "Horacio-Chichí-Mazara" with their victory on Tuesday night 25-19, 25-14, 25-19 over Guatemala in the match that opened the final program of the event held at the volleyball palace Gioriver Arias of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

José Cáceres and Jonathan Mercedes each scored 10 points for the team coached by Venezuelan José Gutiérrez, Omar Tapia nine, Emilio Frías eight, Antonio López seven, and Miguel Romero and Francisco Arredondo four apiece.

For the Central Americans of Cuban coach Reider Lucas Mora, Jeyson Nery and Brandon Chinchilla six, Arnulfo Chacón four, Antonio Aragón three.

The champion team of the last Central American and Caribbean Games, title that will defend in Barranquilla, Colombia this month, ended with a global record of two victories (both against Guatemala) and three defeats, two against Chile in the qualifying phase and the semifinal; one against Mexico in the first stage. Guatemala ended without victory in its five presentations.
