Dominican Republic wins gold undefeated at U18 in Orlando

 

ORLANDO, Florida, June 26, 2016 – The Dominican Republic won the gold medal at the U18 International Division of the 43rd Amateur Athletic Union Girls’ Volleyball Championship at Orange County Convention Center in Orlando on Sunday morning.

 

The Dominican team, coached by Brazilian Wagner Pacheco, registered a convincing 2-0 (25-17, 25-17) victory over Brazil in the decisive match to complete an undefeated journey in the tournament with a 7-0 win-loss record without losing a single set.

 

It was the second defeat handed to Brazil by the Dominican Republic who earlier in the week prevailed 2-0 (25-19, 25-16) against the South American powerhouse.

 

Throughout the U18 International Tournament, facing representatives from Brazil, Slovenia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia and China, the Dominican team played with discipline while showing good fundamental skills and athletic ability.

 

“I am very proud of this new achievement by this group of players,” Pacheco said. “They have showed consistency and discipline, two important factors to get good results.”
