Dominicans claim sixth victory in VNL 2019

STUTTGART, Germany, June 13, 2019 – The Dominican Republic came back from one set down to edge Belgium 3-2 (21-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 15-11) to conclude the fourth round of the Women’s Volleyball Nations League on Thursday.

Both teams have 6-6 win-loss records with Belgium with a slight advantage in points 17-15.

Bethania de la Cruz and Brayelin Martínez scored 24 and 23 points, respectively, as the best offensive players for the Dominican side. Lisvel Eve contributed 12 points, including six blocks, in the victory while Gaila González came off the bench to add 12.

Kaja Grobelana led Belgium with 19 points, followed by Britt Herbots with 18. Celine Van Gestel and Marlies Janssens finished with 15 apiece.

Now the Dominican Republic leads Belgium 3-1 in historic head-to-head matches at major competitions with all the contests extended to five sets.
