Dominicans make the semis and qualify to Lima

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 11, 2018 – Host Dominican Republic outdueled Puerto Rico in five sets 3-2 (25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10) to advance to the semifinals of the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup on Wednesday.

The victory earned the home side a ticket to the volleyball tournament of next year’s Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.

Yonkaira Peña and Brayelin Martinez led the Dominican side with 20 and 18 points, respectively, while Gina Mambru chipped in with 11 points.

Daly Santana had 24 points for Puerto Rico followed by Shirley Ferrer with 16. Neira Ortiz and Alba Hernández each had 10.

The Dominican Republic will play Brazil in the semifinals while United States will battle Canada with all four team already qualified to Lima.
