Dominicans win dramatic battle with Puerto Rico

 

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, July 22, 2016 – The Dominican Republic won a dramatic five-set battle against Puerto Rico to remain undefeated with a 3-0 win-loss record at the U20 Division of the High Performance Female Championship organized by USA Volleyball.

 

Massiel Matos and Natalia Martinez recorded 24 and 22 points, respectively, to lead the 3-2 (25-15, 20-25, 25-22, 21-25, 17-15) victory on Thursday, while Vielka Peralta added 13. The loss left Puerto Rico with a 2-1 mark.

 

The USA Junior National Team also remained with a perfect record at 3-0 without losing a single set after a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-17) over Canada (0-3).

 

The Dominicans square off against USA Youth Team 1, while USA Junior Team meets Puerto Rico.

 

In the U18 Division Pool 1, the Dominican Republic improved to 5-0 following victories over USA Red 1 in five sets 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 15-7) and NCVA Youth Red 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-17).

 

Puerto Rico had mixed results in Pool 2 as they first defeated New Zealand 3-0  (25-20, 25-12, 26-24) but then lost to Iowa in a close 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 31-29).
