Dominicans win gold at 18 Girls International of AAU

ORLANDO, Florida, June 28, 2018 – The Dominican Republic claimed the gold medal of 18 International Division at the AAU Girls National Volleyball Championships with a trilling victory over Puerto Rico on Thursday morning.

The Dominicans, who arrived into the decisive match with an 8-0 win-loss mark, overcame Puerto Rico (7-1) to prevail 2-1 (17-25, 25-17, 15-13) in the most exciting match of the week.

Natalia Martínez led the Dominican attack with 16 points, followed by Yanlis Feliz and Erika Asencio with 11 and 8 points, respectively. Geraldine González chipped in with three blocks.

The victory enabled the Dominican side to complete an undefeated run throughout the week here where they scored preliminary round wins over Slovenia (25-16, 25-12), Colombia Pony’s Club (25-16, 25-11), Puerto Rico (25-15, 25-22), Colombia Sport Voyager (25-13 25-13), China (25-22, 25-12), Israel (25-23, 25-12), Brazil (25-17, 25-23) and Australia (25-7, 25-12).

The Dominicans now will play against the winner of the 18 Open Division of United States for the overall title.
