Eighteen countries represented in Hamaca NORCECA Finals 2019

BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, October 3, 2019 – Players from eighteen countries will participate in the Hamaca NORCECA Finals Beach Volleyball Tournament in Boca Chica, the eighth leg of the year from October 4 to 6.

For the second consecutive year the traditional Hamaca Hotel is hosting the event organized by the former three-time volleyball Olympic champion Mireya Luis of Cuba.

Luis an Executive Vice President of NORCECA and FIVB also leads the organization of the Varadero Tournament in her native country.

Mireya made the announcement during a press conference held on Wednesday in the premises of the hotel. She was accompanied by the Mayor of Boca Chica Carolina Dennis and Jonathan Rijo, vice director of operations of the hotel.

The players hails from Antigua, Bahamas, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Martinique, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos, United States, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

“Some big international players of both genders will come to Boca Chica looking for big FIVB points as they aim to increase their current world ranking ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games,” Mireya said.

“The competition will be very tough and besides the tournament we also will have the eliminatory phase of the Eastern Caribbean women’s continental cup with Antigua playing a best-of-three competition against St Lucia on Sunday.

Teams will arrive on Thursday and the preliminary inspection will take place in the afternoon with the general technical meeting scheduled in the evening.

Daymian Stewart of Trinidad & Tobago will be the Technical Director of the competition with Salvador Bautista as Referee Delegate.

Last year champions of the men’s segment Josué Gaxiola and José Luis Rubio of Mexico will be in Boca Chica to defend their title. In the women’s field bronze medalists Kelley Larsen and Emily Stockman of United States will be here again.
