Eleven women participate in NORCECA Refereeing Refreshment Course

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 25, 2018 – Eleven women are participating in the NORCECA Continental Refereeing Refreshment Course that concludes in Santo Domingo on Sunday.

The course is organized by the NORCECA/FIVB Regional Development Center in Dominican Republic directed by Nelson Ramírez, with Jose Ramón Perez Vento, Guy Bradbury and Guillermo Paredes as instructors.

The Refreshment Course began on Friday one day after the NORCECA Refereeing Commission meeting.

Three Puerto Ricans, three Americans, two Costa Ricans and one from each Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Cuba are the female referees taking part in the course.

“The number of female referees says a lot about opportunities and equity within NORCECA,” Ramírez said. “The confederation, under the leadership of Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, continues to offer support to the development of refereeing.”

“In NORCECA we have some of the best female teams in the world, so it is necessary to work on the development of our referees,” Ramírez said. “It is encouraging to see so many women participating in the Refreshment Course.”

The female referees are: Kenia Nieves, Maricela Candelaria and Ana Ramírez of Puerto Rico, Patricia Rolf, Rebecca Ruiz Johannes and Susan Mailhot of United States, Tatiana Villalobos and Cinthia Hernández of Costa Rica, Yeimi Hernández of Dominican Republic, Lourdes Pérez of Cuba and Walda Maldonado of Guatemala.
