FIVB President hails ties with Olympic movement 

 

   

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, April 30, 2016 - Good relations between the FIVB and the International Olympic Committee were further consolidated following the Olympic Flame ceremony at the United Nations in Geneva on Friday when FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° joined IOC President Thomas Bach, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and a Rio 2016 Olympic Games delegation at a lunch at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The lunch preceded an Olympic Flame ceremony at the Olympic Museum, having earlier arrived at the United Nations in Geneva in the morning before it travels to Brazil for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games from August 5-21. Volleyball and Beach Volleyball are set to be key events at the first Summer Games to be held in South America with the Maracanãzinho to host the Volleyball event and Beach Volleyball to be played at the iconic Copacabana Beach.

President Graça said: “Today was an opportunity to renew the FIVB’s strong ties with the International Olympic Committee as the Olympic flame continues its journey to Brazil. The Rio 2016 Olympic Games will showcase Volleyball and Beach Volleyball at their best and will be a hit with Brazilian fans. I would like to thank IOC President Bach and the Rio 2016 delegation in Lausanne today for their work in the build-up to what promises to be a memorable Games.”
