Figueroa and Rivera finish pool play with 5-0 mark
 

NANJING, China, August 22, 2014 – Puerto Ricans Sergio Figueroa and Daniel Rivera completed pool play in the male segment of the beach volleyball tournament of Nanjing Youth Olympic Games with a spotless 5-0 win-loss record in Pool C.

 

With their crushing 2-0 (21-2, 21-5) victory over Carlos Rosa and Ajai Sweeney of U.S. Virgin Islands, the Puerto Rican duo advanced directly to the round of 16 on Sunday.

 

In other matches on Friday:

Erik Flores and Mark Alvarez of Guatemala defeated Ndayishimiye and Niyongabo of Burundi 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) to conclude with a 2-3 record in Pool E.

 

Louis Richard and Torey DeFalco of United States lost to Austrians Kratz and Telsnigg 2-0 (24-22, 21-17) to finish at 1-4 in Pool F.

 

Canadians Jake MacNeil and Andrew Richards were defeated by Ukranians Kovalov and Plotnytskiy 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) and finished with a 3-2 record in Pool D.

 

In Pool B, Jamaicans Brian Shavar and Rojey Hutchinson finished winless in five outings after their loss 2-0 (21-18, 21-10) to Vaskelis and Navickas of Lithuana.

 

In Pool A, Delshun Fraser and Rodall Fraser of St Vincent finished with a 1-4 record after being defeated in three sets 2-1 (21-15, 18-21, 16-14) by Samiei and Ahid of Oman.
