Garcia leads Puerto Rican win over Tunisia

 

RIFFA, Bahrain, August 18, 2017 – Gabriel Garcia helped Puerto Rico to a 3-2 (20-25, 25-18, 30-32, 25-22, 17-15) triumph over Tunisia in Pool A of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship at the Isa City Sports Hall on Friday.


Garcia had a match-high of 30 points, including 26 attacks, three blocks and an ace to lead the Puerto Rican offence. Hedi Khazri top scored for Tunisia with 16 points. Puerto Rico showed that they were a force to reckon with at the net as they deflected 18 spikes by Tunisia.

 

China captured a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-17, 25-19) against Mexico in Pool D. China captain Cong Tian (18 points) and Chao Wang (10 points) led the Asian side as top scorers. Mexico’s Raymond Gerald Stephens picked up 17 but the Norceca side gave away much points from unforced errors.

 

Kento Miyaura and Tatsunori Otsuka guided Japan to an easy straight-set (25-18, 25-18, 25-12) win over Cuba. Miyaura and Otsuka scored 11 points apiece to lead the Japanese offence, while Lazaro Yoelvis Brunet Llanes top scored for Cuba with 17 markers.
