Guatemala prevails in strong battle with Belize

 

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, July 17, 2019 - The Guatemalan national team had to make an extra effort to defeat Belize 3 sets to 2 (25-21, 25-10 and 24-26, 17-25 and 15-9), in the 18th Central American Women's U-20 Championship, held at Gym # 2 Jorge Galeano in the city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

 

Guatemala comfortably dominated the first two sets, Belize had its rebound in the third and fourth set, and in the fifth, Guatemala was again strong in the first part of the set, to stay with a well fought victory.

 

Guatemala took advantage of the 50 points by unforced errors of Belize, to achieve victory since the Belize team was more effective in attacks at net with advantage of 42 against 40. In blockades and services both selections were quite even, Belize 8-7 and Guatemala 9-8, respectively.

 

The Guatemalan attack was commanded by Laura Cortez with 15 points (4 of them aces) and Jimena Castellanos with 14 points. Faoumata Camara from Belize, had an impressive afternoon, with 30 points, 28 of them on the net and the other two with a service and a block.
