Guatemala takes the lead with victory over Honduras

 

PANAMA CITY, Panamá, July 27, 2016 – Guatemala defeated Honduras 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-16) to take first place in the standings at the U23 Men’s Central American Championship taking place at José “Beto” Remón Gymnasium of the Panamanian capital.

 

With a complete dominance in all the fields, Guatemala held a 42-28 margin in spikes, and was better in blocks 4-1 and in service winners 5-2, to defeat Honduras in the second match of Wednesday and take the first place in the standings following the victory of Costa Rica over Nicaragua.

 

Now Guatemala remains as the only undefeated team in the event closely followed by Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama.

 

For Guatemala, Carlos López and Wagner Chacón, combined to score 15 and 12 points, respectively, while for Honduras, the captain German Moreira was the top scorer of his side with 11 points. The liberos Luis Santacruz of Guatemala, and Hector Ortiz of Honduas, stood out for their 4 spectacular receptions.
