Italy and Russia to play for U19 World Title

 

TUNIS, Tunisia, August 30, 2019 – Russia and Italy will clash for the gold medal of the FIVB U19 Boys’ Volleyball World Championship while Argentina and Egypt will battle for the bronze medal on Friday.

 

In the semifinals of Thursday, Russia defeated Argentina 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 27-25) while Italy cruised past Egypt 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17).

 

Cuba will play Korea for the 11th position while United States will meet Chinese Taipei for the 15th place following losses to Brazil and Germany, respectively.

 

Cuba was blanked by Brazil 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-20) in the round for the 9-12 positions, while Germany defeated United States 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-19, 25-14) in the round for 13-16 positions.

 

Mexico and Dominican Republic finished in the 18th and 19th positions after the conclusion of the round-robin between the teams that finished in the bottom of the preliminary pools.

 

In Thursday’s matches, Mexico defeated Tunisia v 3-2 (21-25, 20-25, 25-14, 25-23, 15-10) while Dominican Republic defeated Colombia 3-1 (25-13, 25-20, 11-25, 29-27).

 

Tunisia, Mexico and Dominican Republic all finished with 2-1 records but were ranked in that mentioned order as Tunisia got 7 points against 5 each by Mexico and Dominican Republic with Mexico computing a better set-ratio.
