Jamaican women train in China for two months

KINGSTON Jamaica, September 28, 2018 - As a result of a three (3) year partnership between the Chinese and Jamaican Governments, a group of Women Volleyball Players benefitted from a Training and Development Program in Kunming, China from July 7 to September 7.

The players were selected by Chinese Coaches who conducted a one (1) month selection process that took place in Jamaica in January 2018.  The team to China was accompanied by former national player, Shedeiky Hamilton-Barnes, who received her FIVB Level 1 Coaches Certificate last year, and Jackie Cowan, JaVA General Secretary and Team Manager.

During their time in China a vast improvement was seen in the technical abilities of the ladies, as training was twice per day, six (6) days a week, and was quite intense. Numerous practice matches took place between the Jamaican team and University Teams.

According to Jackie Cowan, the program was a resounding success. New positions were tested, strengths were found, weaknesses were diminished, team spirit was built, matches were lost, and matches were won. Gym routines were set and executed, exams were given and passed. All in all, we believe that in years to come the upgraded skills of the athletes will provide a greater contribution to their schools, clubs and our national teams.
