Japan and Dominican Republic U23 teams

share training camp in Santo Domingo

 

   

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 23, 2015 – The U23 Women’s National Teams of Japan and Dominican Republic trained and played scrimmage games for one week in Santo Domingo in preparation for the FIVB Women’s World Championship to be held in Turkey from August 12 to 19.

 

The training sessions and the matches, all played to five sets in order to give playing chances to the more number of players possible, took place at the Dominican Air Force Gymnasium in San Isidro, a suburban area of the Dominican capital.

 

The two teams and their coaches and officials were tendered a farewell banquet  offered by Major General Elvis Marcelino Feliz Perez, Chief Commander of the Dominican Air Force, and his wife at the Officials Club of the Air Base.

 

Attendees to the banquet included H.E. Takashi Fuchigami, ambassador of Japan to the Dominican Republic, Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA Confederation, and former Dominican player Milagros Cabral, who coordinated the sport exchange.

 

The Dominican Republic team qualified to the age-group event as winners of the 2014 U23 Pan American Cup held in Peru last year. Cuba, the third placed ranked team of the event, also qualified from NORCECA to the competition in Turkey.

 

Two teams from each of the five confederations of FIVB will participate in the world championship plus the host country and the non-qualified best placed U23 team in the FIVB rankings.

 

The two representatives from the Asian Volleyball Confederation will emerge from the Asian Championship to be held later this year.

 

The qualified teams are the following:

CSV: Brazil and Colombia

NORCECA: Dominican Republic and Cuba

CAVB: Egypt and Tunisia

CEV: Bulgaria and Italy

AVC: TBD

Host: Turkey

Wild Card: TBD
